So, why Waterloo? We’re the community with small-town vibes and big-city drive. Where a new startup is founded every day. We’re urban but different. A place where you spend more time doing what you love and less time trying to get there. Where the headquarters of tech companies, insurance companies, and world-renowned research institutions exist alongside farmers markets, bustling downtowns (and uptowns), and rolling countryside.
What is Waterloo? Waterloo Region is home to 550,000 people in the three cities of Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo and the four townships of Wellesley, Woolwich, Wilmot, and North Dumfries. With over 1,100 tech companies, Waterloo has the second highest density of startups in the world, who last year raised more than $340M in venture capital to help fuel their growth. It is also the home to the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University, Conestoga College and world-renowned research institutes like the Perimeter Institute, Institute for Quantum Computing and the Centre for International Governance Innovation.
We love Waterloo. We could tweet about it all day. But, instead we thought we’d give our fellow neighbours a chance to show you what it’s really like to live here.
